OGS Industries in Akron, Ohio, started as the Ohio Gasket & Shim Co. in 1959. Since then, various acquisitions and expansions have helped them grow to five manufacturing and procurement companies and one packaging division with about 125 employees. According to a recent article in Crains Cleveland, they hope to grow their annual sales from $10-15 million to $20 million in the next three years, and they’re off to a fantastic start: they’ve added a screw machine company, five additional employees and the first second shift of the company since 2000 to support its fabrication business. So what’s their secret?

A legacy of quality runs through their blood and their business.

CEO John Bader was the second member of his family to join the company, behind his father, Jack Bader. John’s 27-year-old son, Andrew, joined the company in May 2013 to bolster the marketing and sales departments. His 24-year-old brother, Matt, works in production. John says that continuing the lineage inside the company brings more energy to their operations. OGS is also a Smithers Quality Assessments client, and has earned its ISO 9001 certification as an added measure to guide internal efficiency.

Now, OGS is positioned for growth serving a broad customer base, from aircraft and aerospace industries to off-road trucking and transportation. According to Tom Bader, vice president of OGS Industries, no industry accounts for more than 10 to 15 percent of their business. The recently acquired Lehner Screw Machine Co. out of Munroe Falls, brings about 20 new employees to the team. They also plan to incorporate a 14,000-square-foot warehouse adjacent to the current 35,000 square-foot building.
