According to a recent client satisfaction survey by the British Assessment Bureau posted in Quality Digest, 81 percent of clients indicated that achieving ISO 9001 has helped them be more competitive. The survey represented mostly small and medium enterprises across construction, oil and gas, retail, and technology industry sectors.

Of that 81 percent, 25 percent said that ISO 9001 certification helped them bid for more contracts, with a third of that number winning new business. Twenty percent believe that certification raised the profile of their business, while three percent stated that it gave them an advantage over their competitors.

ISO 9001 plays a big roll in UK businesses as a prequalification tool -- supplier specifications require it for work in the public sector, and the standard is a stipulation for companies seeking business in export markets. It saves time and money by eliminating the need for merchants to check every possible supplier for quality considerations, because they’ve already been verified by a trusted certification body.
