Anderson International Corp has been supplying process solutions for over 100 years.  A continuous pursuit of quality and a strong dedication to customer satisfaction are integral to the company’s success and plans for growth. For manufacturers, meeting new process standards is one way to improve customer satisfaction, and the ISO 9001 standard for quality management systems is often the gold standard.

ISO 9001:2015 is the new version of the standard. When ISO 9001 was revised for 2015, Anderson International made it a priority to be one of the first manufacturing organizations certified.

“Achieving ISO 9001:2015 with Design is a source of great pride for all of our associates,” said Paul Kohntopp, Executive Vice President and General Manager. “We’re a small but progressive company that is focused on success and growth in the future. Certification exemplifies those priorities.”

The 2015 revision of ISO 9001 specifically emphasizes the organization and its context, the needs and expectations of interested parties and the process approach of the organization. Ultimately, ISO 9001:2015 was introduced to ensure that organizations have quality management systems built around meeting customer requirements. Anderson International saw the new revision as the next logical step in serving its customers.

“We received ISO 9001 certification in April 2014, and it has been a great foundation on which to improve our organization,” said Mark Kelly, Sales and Marketing Manager. “We wanted to continue our commitment to improvement by being among the first in our industry to achieve ISO 9001:2015 certification.”

Anderson International began pursuing ISO 9001:2015 with Design in the summer of 2015. The company worked with a Smithers Quality Assessments auditor in order to complete the audit. Bill Richards, Quality Systems Manager, found the audit to be helpful and practical.

“We had regular communications with the lead auditor at Smithers, allowing us to move in harmony through the surveillance and upgrade audit,” said Richards. “The auditor had a good sense of using time effectively. We would recommend other organizations use Smithers for their systems audits.”

Anderson International’s managers believe that choosing the right auditor is important, but they emphasized that timing is important as well.

“We recommend pursuing the 2015 revision if the leadership team is fully committed to the change,” said Carla Fitzpatrick, HR Manager. “The revised standard helps each department to assess risk, which positions the organization well for a stronger future.”

“Our large, international customer base is familiar with working with ISO 9001 certified companies,” said Kelly. “We made it much simpler for our customers to understand our quality management system by adhering to a widely recognized international standard.”

The customer requirements focus of ISO 9001:2015 has benefitted Anderson International. “We believe certification enhances our relationships with our customers,” added Kelly. “The process of becoming certified is less a destination and more a journey.”

Anderson International strengthened its reputation with international customers, limited risk factors and created a stable foundation for long-term, sustainable growth.
