The International Automotive Task Force (IATF) released the newest TS standard, entitled IATF 16949, on October 1, 2016. The new standard focuses on continuous improvement, particularly decreasing the frequency of defects and reducing waste in the automotive supply chain.
Organizations pursuing certification will need both ISO 9001:2015 and IATF 16949 in order to have a clear understanding of the requirements due to the use of ISO 9001 as reference material. It is also important to note that any audit conducted after October 1, 2017 will be to the new standard. All automotive manufacturers are expected to complete certification by September 14, 2018.
