Preferred Compounding, an SQA customer since August 20, 1997 for ISO 9001 certification, announced that it achieved ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation from ANAB following a recent expansion of its R&D facilities. The company is the second largest custom compounder of rubber in North America with 125 employees at its Barberton, Ohio plant and office.

In a recent Akron Beacon Journal article, Preferred Compounding CEO Ken Bloom stated, “Throughout the past decade, we have dramatically increased our research and quality staff, and they have stepped up to not only improve the services available to our customers but also to get this accreditation successfully completed.”

The accreditation enables the company to meet customer orders faster by conducting all testing in-house. Previously, the plant sent some testing to outside, accredited labs. With expanded and secure laboratory space, the company met the difficult-to-attain ISO/IEC 17025 international standard for testing laboratories, which recognizes a laboratory’s competence in consistently producing valid test results.

“The ISO/IEC 17025 standard includes criteria and procedures that are specifically developed to determine the technical competence of laboratories,” said Gretchen Merriman, general manager, SQA North America. “I congratulate Ken and the entire Preferred Compounding team on achieving certification.”

Preferred Compounding mixes custom and proprietary compounds for customers that are primarily in the automotive, construction and power generation industries at its facilities in Tallapoosa, GA and Huntingdon, TN. Its plant in San Luis, Mexico supplies U.S., Asian and European auto appliance parts manufacturers.
